I can exclusively reveal that the must-see, mega documentary series event by Steven Spielberg, Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero with 6 episodes, will start on 11 September on The Discovery Channel (DStv 121) at 20:55 for South African viewers.

I can also exclusively break the news that a month later, in October, South African viewers will be able to watch the once-off, almost-similar special documentary, Engineering Ground Zero on Discovery Science (TopTV 302) on Monday 3 October at 19:00, also looking at the extraordinary construction endeavour.

Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero, starting on 11 September 2011 in South Africa exactly a decade after the towers fell, has Steven Spielberg as executive producer and promises to be a truly spectacular documentary series. The 6 part Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero will chronicle the historic reconstruction over months - on site - of New York's World Trade Center site, Ground Zero. For months cameras have been following engineers, construction workers, city planners and architects as they rebuild the site with new 104 story skyscrapers and a Ground Zero memorial site for what will make for captivating viewing.



Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero is produced by DreamWorks Television and KPI Productions and takes a comprehensive look at one of the most daunting construction jobs America has ever undertaken. Building 4 skyscrapers, a transportation hub, a museum and a memorial featuring the largest man-made waterfall in history - at the same time on the same site - presents an unprecedented set of engineering challenges.



From the design to the materials to the raw emotions and heavy hearts, Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero chronicles the teamwork and innovation involved in reining in a beast of planning, timing and coordination. This special event series also looks at the rebirth of Lower Manhattan through the eyes of the residents who survived the horrors of 9/11 to reclaim and rebuild their neighborhood. The documentary series has a cast of real people facing the highest stakes in their professional lives - to meet their construction deadline and to do honor to the victims and their families.



Meanwhile on 3 October at 19:00 Discovery Science has the once-off special, Engineering Ground Zero. Shot over 3 years and granted behind the scenes access, this documentary special also tells an epic tale of engineering innovation as architects, engineers and construction workers race against time to rebuild Ground Zero with the September 11th Memorial, the transportation hub and the Freedom Tower.
